Pierre Alechinsky – Offset print

DKK 1,700.00

Pierre Alechinsky was born, 1927, in Brussels and, despite his advanced age, is still active. Since 1951, he has lived and worked in France.

Alechinsky is one of the few living artists from the extraordinary artistic collective COBRA. He was educated in Brussels, where he studied illustration techniques, printing, and photography. His art is associated with abstract expressionism and lyrical abstraction. In 1949, he joined Christian Dotremont, Karel Appel, Constant, and Asger Jorn in the COBRA group.

Alechinsky’s art is partly inspired by the Japanese writing system, which Jean Dubuffet introduced to him. During the 1960s, Alechinsky worked closely with Walasse Ting and Dotremont. His art has been showcased at some of the most renowned exhibition venues worldwide, including the Guggenheim Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Venice Biennale. He has donated numerous COBRA works to the Jorn Museum in Silkeborg, Denmark.

Appel’s world of motifs, consisting of humans, animals, and mythical creatures, was painted with bold colors and an almost naïve sincerity. He expressed his temperament and impulses, creating large works characterized by drama and vitality.
