Large Art Nouveau Shell Centrepiece in Pressed Glass

DKK 2,900.00

A sculptural Art Nouveau centrepiece modelled as a flowing nautilus shell — an ode to the era’s fascination with marine forms and organic movement.

Crafted in pressed glass in the Lorraine region of France, the elongated asymmetrical bowl unfurls in soft ribbing, gathering into a finely modelled spiral at one end. The form feels almost fluid — as though shaped by water rather than mould.

Raised on an elegant baluster stem and circular foot, the piece balances generous scale with surprising lightness. The subtle warmth of the early 20th-century glass gives it depth and softness in natural light.

A rare large-scale example of French domestic Art Nouveau glass — equally compelling as a dining centrepiece or sculptural object.

Dimensions

L 30 cm × H 22 cm × W 17 cm

Condition

Excellent — no chips, cracks or restoration.

Collector’s Note

Shell and nautilus forms were emblematic of Art Nouveau’s fascination with organic movement and natural geometry. Produced in the Lorraine region of France in the early 20th century, pressed-glass centrepieces of this scale were designed to capture light and animate the dining table.

Large examples in excellent condition — particularly with intact spiral terminals — are increasingly uncommon, making this a strong and sculptural example of French domestic Art Nouveau glass.
