Hand-hammered Lidded Jar by Gérôtin — Early 20th Century

DKK 1,100.00

A quiet treasure from a small French atelier, crafted by hand in the early 20th century. This rounded, sculptural jar stands 15 cm tall and 12–13 cm in diameter — a beautifully balanced size for a tabletop, shelf, or altar-like corner of a room.

The exterior is richly hand-hammered, giving it that soft, organic texture only slow craftsmanship can create. It rests on three lotus-bud feet, a tender little detail that makes the whole piece feel grounded and almost creature-like. On the lid sits a serene, Buddha-like figure, holding his chest as if guarding whatever you choose to place inside.

Inside, a gentle surprise: a silver-plated interior with a bright, clean glow. This was a typical luxury detail in French atelier work of the 1920s–1930s, originally meant to preserve tobacco, sweets, or incense without absorbing scent. Today, it keeps the piece feeling refined and quietly luminous.

Stamped GEROTIN beneath — a mark from a lesser-known but collectible French workshop working in the borderland between Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts.

A tactile, poetic object with real personality — a piece that invites curiosity, storytelling, and touch.
