About us

Behind Rare Atelier are interior architect and furniture designer Chili Degn and furniture maker Søren Degn. Together we design and craft furniture using recycled, natural, and sustainable materials. Only using a minimal amount of newly produced materials.

We firmly believe in the importance of recycling and choose to focus our resources on handpicking vintage furniture that can be rebuilt or restored, giving it an extended lifespan and a fresh, modern expression in homes worldwide.

We invite you to discover more about how and why we create things and what matters most to us as a small Danish brand.

Production

All of our furniture is handcrafted and carefully selected by us. Everything is built in our own workshop, with a primary focus on using recycled materials to create unique and sustainable pieces.

Materials

Across all our collections, we work exclusively with high-quality natural and upcycled materials. We choose these materials because of their great potential, their beauty, and their ability to endure in their new form. Most importantly, we choose them because they are more environmentally friendly.

Sabi philosophy

Japanese philosophy of Sabi, which calls for seeing beauty in the flawed or imperfect.

Sabi is concerned with the passage of time, the way all things grow, age, and decay, and how it manifests itself beautifully in objects. It suggests that beauty is hidden beneath the surface of what we actually see, even in what we initially perceive as broken.

- Therefore, we make sure to sell items, even if they have small imperfections, cracks and chips. Because they are simply too beautiful to throw away.

Objects are our constant companions in life. As such, they should, in short, be things of beauty.
